Frequently Asked Questions

Why Hotline?

Hotline suits are designed and tested in the frigid waters of Santa Cruz California, and really are made by surfers for surfers. We don’t test shorts, hoodies, jeans, sandals or caps. Nope, just wetsuits.  What’s more, we rely on continuous feedback from our pro team as well as the local Santa Cruz surfing population to make better suits every season.

What is your most popular cold water suit?

Our best-selling cold water suit is the Phoenixx. If it’s really cold the Hooded 5/4 or 6/5 Phoenixx.

What is your newest suit on the market?

Our newest suit is the second-generation Phoenixx.

If the suit I order doesn't fit properly, can I exchange it?

Yes, we will happily exchange any suit as long as it hasn’t gotten wet and is still new and clean. First study the size chart on the product pages, and feel free to ask us for sizing help.

The size chart says I could be 2 or 3 different sizes—which size do I choose?

Hotline suits have great flex and will stretch and mold to your body after a few sessions. If in doubt, go with the smaller size.  The exception is if you have a unique body shape like an enormous chest or wide shoulders or super-long limbs – we offer “T” for tall, “S” for Stocky, “L” for large (as in ML—“Medium Large”) etc. Email the team and we will be pleased to help.

How long does shipping take?

5-14 business days depending on stock and availability.

Why are Hotline’s suits priced lower than the competition’s? Are they as good?

Hotline consistently produces the finest surfing wetsuits available. Hotline is a relatively small, boutique-style company entirely devoted to researching and developing the best wetsuits.  Because we don’t have heaps of offices and factories all over the world and big advertising, traveling, and other overhead costs, plus the fact that we don’t do street clothing and other product lines, we can devote all our resources to making the highest quality wetsuits at the best prices.
The exchange rate is also helping this industry become more accessible to markets down under.

What is your warranty policy? Where do I send my suit for repair?

Hotline Wetsuits carry a lifetime warranty on workmanship and a one year warranty on materials, provided you care for your suit with care instructions included. We will arrange pick up if needed.

What thickness suit do I need?

One of each, probably.  For water temps below 10° C a 5/4 or 6/5 Hooded. 10-13° C a 5/4 or 4/3. 13-17° C a 4/3 or 3/2.  Over 17° C go with short sleeves or short legs, or a Flak Jacket or Rashguard.  Remember, if it’s windy or cloudy or if you’re sitting a while between sets, go a bit thicker.  If it’s sunny or if you’re paddling like the dickens, go thinner.

4/3, 5/4, what do these numbers mean anyway?

These numbers indicate the thickness of the panels used in the suit, measured in millimeters.  For example a “4/3” suit has 4mm panels around the body's core and 3mm panels on the limbs and other high-flex areas.  This allows for the best combination of warmth and performance.

What do I need to know about caring for my Wetsuit?

Care Guidelines:

·    Rinse with fresh water after use. A brief soak in a bin of fresh water is ideal, or use a hose or shower. Hang in ventilated area.
·    Never use wire hangers (check out Hangdry Hangers).
·    Never leave in direct sunlight or extreme heat.
·    Never dry in a clothes dryer or dry clean or bleach.
·    Avoid abrasive surfaces like concrete & Velcro.
·    Minimize deterioration & avoid peeing in your suit.
·    Store wetsuits in a cool, dry place.

What is Metalitape?

Metalitape is an ultra-thin micro seam seal that is taped to the inside of the suit’s seams. Metalitape is neoprene-based, stretchy, and works perfectly in conjunction with the suit’s materials. Our competitors’ urethane-based gel tape cracks…our Metalitape rocks.

Will a Hotline suit make me rip harder?

Most definitely, watch out Kelly Slater.
